Terms and Conditions

These Membership Terms and Conditions apply to all members of the Latin American Community Association of Edinburgh (LACAE).

By applying for or renewing membership, you agree to support LACAE’s mission and values, respect the diversity of our community, and follow our safeguarding, equality, and inclusion principles.

1. Membership types

LACAE offers the following membership types:

• Community Member — annual fee of £25.
• Family Member — annual fee of £40 per household, covering two adults and two children.
• Cultural Supporter — annual fee of £100.
• Patron / Cultural Ambassador — annual fee of £250.

2. Membership term

Membership is valid for 12 months from the date of confirmation. Renewals are invited annually.

3. Member responsibilities

By becoming a member, you agree to:

• Support LACAE’s mission and values.
• Respect the diversity of our community.
• Follow safeguarding, equality, and inclusion principles.
• Engage respectfully with staff, volunteers, and other members.
• Use LACAE spaces and services responsibly.

4. Rights and participation

Members have the right to attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Members may vote on key organisational decisions where applicable, nominate and elect Trustees, and participate in consultations about LACAE activities.
Family membership includes one voting right per household at the AGM.

5. Membership benefits

Membership benefits vary by membership type.

Community Members receive discounted entry to events delivered by LACAE, early access to events, invitations to community gatherings, regular newsletter updates, opportunities to volunteer, and voting rights at the AGM.
Family Members receive all Community Member benefits, together with discounts on children’s events delivered by LACAE, priority booking for family activities, and invitations to family-friendly cultural events.
Cultural Supporters receive all Community Member benefits, together with free entry to selected events, optional recognition on the LACAE website, and invitations to supporter-only gatherings.
Patrons / Cultural Ambassadors receive all Cultural Supporter benefits, together with VIP invitations to major events, recognition in programmes and online, featured recognition as supporters of the House of Culture, and complimentary access to selected events delivered by LACAE.

Where a membership benefit includes free entry, priority booking, complimentary access, or invitations, LACAE will decide which events, activities, workshops, or programmes are included. Event and activity benefits may vary by membership type, event, venue, capacity, or programme, and not all benefits apply to every event.

All members receive a 20% discount on sponsorship packages for events and festivals organised by LACAE, including LatinA Fest and the Edinburgh Carnaval Festival.

All members receive a digital membership certificate, and a printed certificate is available on request.

6. Data and communications

LACAE will handle member information in line with its Privacy Policy.

LACAE may use the details provided by members to manage membership, keep internal records, and send membership-related notices, updates, and administration communications.

7. Changes to these Terms

LACAE may update these Membership Terms and Conditions from time to time.

Where a change is material, LACAE will give reasonable notice.

Any updated Terms will apply from the date they are published or otherwise notified by LACAE.

8. Cancellation of membership

LACAE may cancel a membership if a member:

• Acts against LACAE’s values.
• Breaches safeguarding or equality policies.
• Uses the organisation for personal commercial gain without permission.

Membership fees are non-refundable once confirmed.
